Some couples just get it. They show up, embrace the moment, and make my job way too easy. That’s Tanner and Meggan to a T! While this technically wasn’t an elopement, it had every bit of that intimate, adventurous feel. These two wanted to celebrate their anniversary with something special, so they made the trip all the way from the eastern side of Colorado to have me capture them at Black Canyon National Monument—and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
This was Tanner and Meggan’s second time in front of my camera, but honestly, it felt like the 100th because they’re just that fun to work with. They’re naturals—completely effortless and so easygoing. I swear I could photograph them all day.
Let’s talk about their attire, because wow. Meggan wore a sleek, lace wedding dress that looked straight out of an elopement editorial, and Tanner sported a salmon-colored sport coat with dress pants—a bold, stylish choice that fit the dramatic backdrop of Black Canyon National Monument perfectly. These two are always up for an adventure and I love it!
We explored three different overlooks and points throughout this Black Canyon Elopement, and each one gave us something different. Wide, sweeping mountain views? Check. Up-close, romantic moments? Got those too. Fun, carefree shots? Of course. I love Black Canyon elopements and sessions like this because the variety is endless—no two spots look the same, and every angle is pure magic.
And then . . . the sunset. It was next-level. Deep pink skies with streaks of blue and purple, casting the most incredible glow over the canyon. I say this all the time, but this spot never gets old. I could shoot here a hundred times and still be in awe. Its truly amazing to have such an epic National Park in our town!
One of my favorite moments? Tanner casually mentioned during the session that he’s afraid of heights. Which, okay—if you’ve ever been to Black Canyon, you know that’s a bold thing to admit because this place is nothing but sheer cliffs and dramatic drop-offs. But here’s the best part—Meggan, being the adventurous wife she is, once got him skydiving for his birthday just to help him challenge that fear.
I wouldn’t have guessed he was even remotely nervous because he was so calm, cool, and collected during the entire session. Looking at these photos, you’d never know heights make him uneasy. But now, I have an even greater appreciation for how much of a champ he was standing on those overlooks like a pro. Tanner, we could all learn a thing or two from you here!
Tanner and Meggan, you two are amazing. I can’t wait for the next session because you always bring the best energy, the best outfits, and the best stories. Black Canyon National Monument is easily one of my favorite places to shoot, and I’d love to do even more Black Canyon elopements and sessions here. So if you’re dreaming of an adventurous, intimate session with unreal views and golden light, let’s make it happen.
Until next time, Tanner and Meggan—you two are the best.
