As a photographer in the San Juan Mountains, I get to work in some incredible places. This Gold Mountain Ranch Ouray wedding might officially be one of the most breathtaking yet. John and Andrea’s day took place high above the town of Ouray, and the views from that mountain top truly can’t be overstated.
Gold Mountain Ranch sits above the valley overlooking Ouray and the surrounding San Juan peaks. The drive up alone is an adventure. My assistant and I actually hitched a ride with the groom’s aunt and uncle because there was absolutely no way I was driving my truck up that road. After experiencing the climb and clutching my assistants hand, I was even more grateful for the lift. Thankfully the way down was easier at the end of the day, provided by the venue’s shuttle.
The moment we reached the top, it was clear why this venue is booking up so quickly. The scenery is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Everywhere you turn there are sweeping mountain views, dramatic ridge lines, and the tiny town of Ouray sitting far below.

John and Andrea kept their celebration small and intimate with their closest friends and family. That made the whole day feel incredibly meaningful and relaxed. I’ve known Andrea for quite a while, so getting to photograph this moment for her felt extra special. Seeing her so genuinely happy was the best part, and it’s obvious John brings so much joy to her life.

Andrea looked stunning. Her dress was absolutely incredible, and the way John looked at her during the ceremony said everything. You could feel how much love and respect they have for each other.

One of the most beautiful details of the day involved their families. The bridesmaids were made up of John’s daughters and Andrea’s daughters, which added such a meaningful layer to the celebration. Watching them stand beside their parents during the ceremony was incredibly special. The did a rock tower ceremony where each child stacked one rock on top of the other to symbolize the joining on their families. It was so beautiful!

After they said their vows, cocktail hour was provided by Meat & Gather. John and Andrea went on the top patio overlooking the ceremony area to deliver their toast, and thank their guests.

After that, guests mingled, enjoyed drinks, and soaked in those unbelievable views. We spent that time on that immaculate cliff for all the portraits, and honestly I could have photographed these two on that mountain top for hours.

A Gold Mountain Ranch Ouray wedding offers endless photo opportunities. Between the wide open landscape and the dramatic mountain backdrop, every direction feels like a postcard.

Later in the evening everyone headed down into town for the reception at The Association. The celebration continued with a delicious dinner catered by The Stone House, followed by one of the most heartfelt moments of the night.

Andrea surprised everyone by singing a beautiful love song to John. It was sweet, personal, and one of those moments you could feel in the room. After that, the dance floor opened and the party officially began.

Guests danced, laughed, and celebrated well into the night. Everyone looked incredible, and you could tell the entire group was still buzzing from the experience of being up at Gold Mountain Ranch earlier in the day.

It was truly an unforgettable wedding from start to finish. I feel incredibly grateful John and Andrea trusted me to capture such a meaningful chapter of their story.
And after seeing the views and atmosphere up there, I can confidently say I can’t wait for another opportunity to photograph a Gold Mountain Ranch Ouray wedding again soon.
