This Mental Health Awareness session was fantastic. One of the best things about my career is that I get to work alongside incredible people doing incredible things. This session was just that.
Maria is my kid’s piano teacher. She is an extremely talented musician and has done some pretty cool things on her journey. You can check out some of her work here. Four out of our five kiddos take lessons with her and they are growing and learning so much! My oldest has actually been playing piano since she was five, and my our oldest son shortly after. They love music and always look forward to their annual Christmas recitals.
Maria is also an advocate for mental health awareness and currently trying to bring more attention specifically to bi-polar disorder. It is something that is not only personally important to her, but something that she battles with herself. Maria has spoken publicly about her struggles and victories and looks forward to doing more events in the future.
The truth is, Maria is far from the only person that struggles with this (or similar conditions). Mental health is something that’s stigma has changed over time. It use to be an unspoken topic, so unspoken that it was encouraged to be hidden for fear of judgement. We no longer live in those times. The more mental health is talked about, the more we understand it, the more we can lean on on another, the more we can heal. This is a topic I am also passionate about and can probably talk about for hours upon hours. There is a monumental range on mental health that deserves more discussion, more awareness, and more intervention. But, for now- I’ll let you scroll these photos of Maria during her Mental Health Awareness Session.
