Some couples dream about a big wedding.
Others want something a little more adventurous.
Blake and Tori flew in from Texas to elope in the San Juan Mountains, and honestly, they could not have picked a better time. Their Telluride fall elopement happened at the very end of September, when the aspens were glowing gold and the mountains looked like something straight out of a postcard.

It was one of those evenings where every direction you turn feels like a photo waiting to happen.
We actually started just outside of town in a field along the main road. As we pulled up, Tori immediately spotted elk grazing in the distance and got so excited. Carefully and quietly, we made our way into the field and managed to capture some incredible photos with the elk nearby.

Moments like that feel a little surreal.
We spent some time roaming around the field, playing with the light as the sun started dropping lower behind the mountains. The golden grass, the fall colors, and the mountain backdrop made it the perfect start to the evening.

From there we headed into Telluride and rode the gondola up to San Sophia Overlook, which is one of my favorite spots for an elopement in the San Juan Mountains.
And that’s when things got really good.

The fall colors on the mountain were unreal. Every hillside was covered in glowing aspens and deep green pines, creating that classic Telluride fall look people travel across the country to see.
Blake and Tori were completely in the moment the entire time. It got a little chilly up there as the sun started to drop, but Tori was having so much fun she barely seemed to notice.

We explored all over the mountain top capturing portraits in different spots. At one point we ducked into a small grove of aspens where the gold leaves were absolutely exploding with color. The light filtering through the trees created the most beautiful glow.

It honestly felt like stepping into a painting.
One of the most fun parts of the evening was riding the gondola together. We grabbed some incredible photos while they were inside the gondola cars, which added such a unique Telluride element to their gallery.

Later, we caught a few more shots with the gondolas gliding overhead while the mountains faded into that soft evening light. Those ended up being some of my favorite images from the entire day.

Everything about the evening felt relaxed, joyful, and completely true to them.
Blake and Tori chose adventure, incredible scenery, and a moment that was just about the two of them. And Telluride in the fall delivered in the best possible way.

I’m so grateful they trusted me to capture such an unforgettable day.
And if you’re dreaming about a Telluride fall elopement, consider this your sign to make it happen. I’m always down for an elopement in Telluride.
