Engagement sessions are easily some of my favorite sessions to shoot. There’s just something about getting to focus on a couple without a timeline or pressure that makes everything feel more relaxed, more natural, and honestly . . . more fun.

Kimberly and Malyaki’s San Juan Mountain engagement session was exactly that. No rush, no strict plan—just taking our time, finding the best spots, and letting things unfold as they went. You can feel how much they love each other, and being around that kind of energy never gets old. It’s the best kind of reminder of why I love what I do.
They showed up completely ready (which I love). Outfits were on point, her ring was sparkling, and they fully trusted the process—which always makes such a difference. If you’re planning your own engagement photos in the San Juan Mountains, I always send my couples a prep guide beforehand, and I’ve got a Pinterest board for outfit inspo too. It helps take the guesswork out so you can just show up and enjoy it.

Quick heads up if you’re thinking about this location—there’s cactus. Not a little… a lot. I’ve learned that lesson the hard way more than once 😅
Bring an extra pair of shoes to walk between spots, even if you don’t think you’ll need them. You will. Trust me. Bleeding all over your shoes from cactus needles- not fun.

One of the best parts about this area is how different it can look depending on the light and season. I’ve shot here in all kinds of conditions, and it never disappoints. But when that evening light hits and the mountains start to glow… it’s next level. That soft alpenglow is one of my favorite things to photograph.

Kimberly and Malyaki absolutely brought the energy for this one, and it made the whole session feel effortless.
