My husband and I have always had this crazy dream of building a house. In 2017 we made that dream a reality. We interviewed almost every builder in town, and chose Design Build Unlimited, one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
We designed if from top to bottom. We hand drew (it was awful, btw) the layout and floor plan. We wrote down everything in detail that was important to us; open concept, big windows, built-in shelves, stone fireplace, arches, big backyard for the kids, secret hideout’s (mmhm), benches, etc . . . There are so many horror stories about building, that we didn’t know what to expect and prepared for the worst. Full honesty, it was a fantastic process. Yes, there are hiccups, and unpredictable changes. But, we loved it! (We were also pregnant during this time, so nesting was in FULL swing).
One of our good friends, now neighbor, is an incredible craftsman and hand built all of our shelving, trim, benches, etc . . . we get compliments on his work constantly! So a huge shoutout to him and his crew for their flawless work, (and dealing with a hormonal pregnant woman).
We moved in March of 2018, when our 4th baby was 6 weeks old. Our goal was to create a welcoming, warm, open space where we felt life and love. We wanted to host backyard BBQ’s, have a place for guests to sleep comfortably, a place where our kids and their friends could play without waking a sleeping baby sister, a place that we could both work, create memories, and be able to embrace ‘hygge’. When we walked in on moving day. I cried. I mean ugly girl, I can’t believe this is our house kinda cry. Seeing it all come together, stepping into our new home, it was pretty wonderful!
Enjoy some photos of our new home!!
You can check out more of DBU’s work here. We highly recommend working with them, if you are local.
Most of these photos were taken shortly after we moved in and got settled. Since then, we have since added a few fun things, and moved some things around, so I will be posting an update this fall! Stay tuned for that! (And yes, that’s my sweet girl having a tea party with her doll in the last photo).
