A Romantic Western Colorado Proposal by the River

This day was extra special. Jesse, someone I’ve known for years from a church we used to attend, reached out and asked me to photograph a BBQ with friends by the river. I said yes without hesitation—casual, laid-back sessions like that are always fun.

A few weeks later, the real plan came out . . . and it was SO much better than just a BBQ. Jesse was planning to propose to his girlfriend, Dawn, and had planned the most thoughtful surprise. When I found out, I couldn’t wait to be part of it.

She Said Yes! (Of Course!)

When I arrived, Jesse had everything set. A table beautifully arranged right next to the river, dinner cooking on a camp grill, a live violinist playing (who, by the way, crushed it), and champagne ready to go.

Dawn had no clue. She thought they were just having a quiet dinner at their apartment nearby. But as soon as she got to the complex, Jesse asked her to walk down toward the river. Within minutes, he was on one knee.

It was my first time meeting Dawn, and she was so incredibly sweet. She couldn’t stop saying how romantic everything was. She was clearly so touched—and it was just the most genuine, joyful moment. Of course, she said yes! This may be one of my favorite Western Colorado Proposal’s yet.

Surprises, Celebrations & Champagne

After the proposal, Jesse and Dawn enjoyed dinner by the water and had a few quiet moments together. Then friends started showing up, one by one, to celebrate with them! Jesse had brought in some amazing charcuterie from Meat & Gather (locals, if you haven’t been—go!).

The energy was light, warm, and full of love. I grabbed Jesse and Dawn for a few quick portraits down by the water—just the two of them. We popped some champagne, laughed a lot, and soaked in the golden light before the evening got too chilly.

Jesse, you nailed it. Dawn, it was such a joy meeting you and photographing this moment for you both. You’re a beautiful couple and I’m so excited for this next chapter!
