Laressia and Sam recently welcomed their sweet baby girl, Madden James—who they lovingly call Mads—and I had thejoy of photographing them in their beautiful home for her newborn session.
These two are good friends of mine, and I’ve had the honor of capturing their story from the beginning—starting with their maternity session (check that out if you haven’t seen it yet). Seeing them step into this new chapter as parents is so special. And Mads? She was an angel the entire session. Calm, sleepy, and so loved.
We shot everything in their home, and the natural light was incredible. The nursery was simple and stunning—neutral tones, warm textures, and so much peace. It was the perfect backdrop for these quiet, real moments: Mads curled up in her crib, nestled in the rocking chair with mama, snuggled in close with dad on the bed (and let me tell you—Sam is tall and looked like a giant holding her in the sweetest way!).
There’s something incredibly meaningful about photographing those first few weeks. Everything is new, raw, and beautiful. Your world has just shifted in the best way, and there’s nothing quite like preserving those first moments with your new little love.
The best time for a newborn session is typically within the first two weeks—when babies are still sleepy, snuggly, and not too wiggly yet. I also love doing Fresh 48 sessions (right in the hospital or just after arriving home) for those first emotional days.
If you’re looking for props, baskets, or overly posed baby portraits—I’m probably not your photographer. My style is simple, natural, and connection-focused. I love photographing babies exactly where they belong—snuggled in their crib, curled up in their parents’ arms, or laid back on the bed soaking in the newness.
No pressure. No stress. Just quiet, beautiful moments you’ll want to remember.
Laressia and Sam are already such loving, intuitive parents, and I couldn’t be more excited for them as they step into this new season with Mads. They told me how much they love their gallery—and I have to agree. These moments? They’re keepers.
