When it comes to The Best Seasons for Elopements in Western Colorado, it’s hard to go wrong. The views are breathtaking year-round, and each season brings its own vibe. Whether you want to be surrounded by wildflowers, golden aspens, or snowy peaks, this area offers the perfect setting for your big day. Let’s dive into what makes each season so special for Western Colorado elopements.
If you love wildflowers, spring is where it shines. Late May through early June is peak bloom, especially in Crested Butte, which isn’t called the “Wildflower Capital of Colorado” for nothing. The weather can be all over the place—think chilly mornings and warmer afternoons—so layers are your best friend. Ridgway is another springtime stunner with lush greenery and mountain views that’ll leave you in awe. Bonus: waterfalls are flowing like crazy this time of year, making your photos even more epic. Because, who doesn’t want a waterfall in the background of their elopement photos? Do be aware of the wind factor in the spring. Typically April-May has some afternoon winds that we will want to take steps to mitigate any disruptions. No worries though, I’ve done tons of Spring Weddings in Western Colorado and we always figure it out and have epic photos.
Summer is prime time for big adventure elopements. Spots like Telluride, Ridgway, and Ouray are full of vibrant greens, wildflowers, and endless mountain backdrops. Montrose is another killer choice, especially for those long summer evenings when the golden hour light hits just right. While Colorado is known for over 300 days of sunshine throughout the year, afternoon thunderstorms are a possibility common. They typically pass very quickly and leave behind skies that make your photos even more stunning. As far as the Best Seasons for Elopements in Western Colorado, summer has my top vote!
Fall in Western Colorado is straight out of a postcard. Mid-September to early October is peak aspen season, with glowing golden leaves lighting up spots like Dave Wood Road, Telluride, and Top of the Pines. Montrose is an underrated gem for fall elopements, offering killer views without the big crowds. The crisp air and vibrant colors make it the perfect backdrop for an intimate ceremony. Pro tip: aim for a weekday to skip the weekend rush at the more popular locations. Check out my blog tagged below for my favorite local venues in Montrose.
Dreaming of a winter wonderland? Western Colorado delivers. Picture snow-covered mountains, quiet trails, and soft golden light—it’s all here in spots like Ridgway State Park, Telluride, and the Grand Mesa. Winter ceremonies feel extra cozy and intimate, especially with a warm drink in hand afterward. Just make sure to dress warm and plan for a cozy cabin nearby for post-ceremony relaxation.
Spring and summer bring adventure and lush green vibes, with Crested Butte and Ridgway being total standouts. Fall is all about those golden aspen trees in Telluride, Dave Wood Road, and Montrose. And if you’re into the snowy, quiet magic of winter, Ridgway and Telluride are your go-tos. No matter the season, Western Colorado’s jaw-dropping landscapes are ready to make your day unforgettable.
