I couldn’t have envisioned a better Ouray Family Session. Last week’s family of 4 session up on Red Mountain Pass, at Crystal Lake was truly incredible. Go check out the other family session I did up on Red Mountain Pass, here!
Ashley and her family came to Colorado on a vacation, they drove all the way from Texas with no agenda other than a wedding and photos! They took their time, explored, and adventured! I seriously love that idea! You could tell the whole family was enjoying their trip and our amazing Colorado weather!
Crystal Lake sits right on top of Red Mountain Pass, which runs from Ouray, CO to Silverton, CO. It is a gorgeous mountain pass, albeit, a bit intimidating if you aren’t use to these type of roads (read, I, the Colorado photographer gets scared out of her mind and cries a little bit while being driven up the pass and dares not to look over the ledge) Anyywayy . . . it is a beautiful breathtaking pass nonetheless.
If you live locally, you know that there is a lot of talk about Crystal Lake right now. Recently, they announced that the lake is to be drained due to an issue in the dam. For some people this is a huge disappointment. When I first pulled up to the lake, it looked like, from the road, that that had happened. Once I walked up the short trail I could see that only the back portion had been drained. This was a huge relief after thinking that the whole lake was gone! The portion left still gave us some amazing mountain reflections that this family was hoping for. And, the wildflowers were a huge bonus!
This family came dressed perfectly. I lit up when I saw their colors and coordination. If you are wanting to achieve this look, these photos can serve as a great reference! And, if you need a few more tips or some inspiration boards, I got you.
